Katherine Powell ‘09 Communications Communications / Outreach I think being idealistic is the most practical trait anyone can possess. This project is the most ambitious thing any of us has ever done, not just because we are trying to build a house (something I’ve certainly never done before), but because through this house we are trying to save the world - by educating people, by illustrating that a sustainable life style is a comfortable life style. I am a communications major and I love the environment, and this project has helped me find a way to unite these two passions, with purpose. I feel that if our engineers can create technologies that will help the environment and I can help communicate why they are a good idea, we really can bring about change. Post-Santa Clara Plans: After I graduate I am going to sleep. And then go to graduate school at the Art Center in Pasadena or live a completely wind-powered life on my sailboat. Or start a start-up company with all the people who worked on the Solar Decathlon. Favorite sustainable thing to do: When I’m not cooped up inside in front of my computer, I like to hike, bike, run, and most of all sail! In my opinion the only thing better than solar power is wind power! |
