Dr. Tim Hight Mechanical Engineering Department Faculty Advisor Sustainability, to me, is a no-brainer. We have already spent far too freely from future generations’ resources, and the sooner we can learn to live and work sustainablly, the better. As engineers, we have an opportunity to create systems and solutions that enable the world to do this, and with creativity and ingenuity, we can actually increase productivity and enhance lifestyles while doing so. The Solar Decathlon is a wonderful blend of creativity and realism that will give our students a head start in attacking and solving some of these vexing problems. My role is Faculty project manager - I pay the bills and try to keep the team on schedule! Post-Santa Clara Plans: Retirement, travel, and spoiling grandchildren. Favorite sustainable thing to do: As a teacher, one of my roles is to help spread the gospel of sustainability to our students - future designers, planners, and decision makers - who will spread the word to their friends and colleagues, and so on, creating a sustainable supply of thoughtful engineers, and a better world. |
