Brian Drocco ‘08 Electrical Engineering Lighting / Electrical Coordinator In the past two-hundred years, with the industrial revolution and the invention of the personal computer, sustainability and the environment has been all but ignored. I like to appreciate the world around us and see all the different wonders nature has to offer. The Solar Decathlon is an exciting opportunity to display the capabilities of technology as it pertains to the future of our environment. It is also a great way to learn first hand of the methods and products involved in making homes green. I truly hope that the general public will become more informed of available technology through the Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon will hopefully display the ability of any home to be green regardless of the location or what appliances are used in the house. I am most involved in the electrical team but am mainly focused as the leader of the lighting tasks for the competition. I became involved with lighting because of my past experience as a theatrical lighting designer and my familiarity with design integration with light. Post-Santa Clara Plans: I plan on working in the electronics industry with a focus on sustainable living; particularly in reducing power consumption and increasing efficiency. Favorite sustainable thing to do: I can’t pass up a great backpacking trip to a campsite too remote for vehicles to reach. |
